Carpenter & his wife Polly of the County of Brunswick and state of Virginia and Peterson Tutor of the County of Greensville and State aforesaid. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred & fifty dollars to the said William R. Carpenter by the said Peterson Tutor the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said William R. Carpenter & Polly his wife hath bargained and sold & by these presents do bargain & sell unto the said Peterson Tutor a certain tract of land lying and being in the County of Brunswick and bounded as follows, to wit by Richard Sims Sr. on the west by Littleton Walton, dec'd on the South by William H. Walker on the East and by Quarrel Swamp and white oak Creek on the North to the beginning. Supposed to contain three hundred Acres more or less. To have and to hold the said tract of land with all its appurtenances though subject to Dower of Sally Pearson, unto the said Tutor, his heirs, Exor's, Adm'rs or assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Peterson Tutor his heirs, Exor's, Adm'rs or assigns forever. And I the said William R. Carpenter and wife Polly for theirselves and heirs, Ex'ors, Adm'rs, or assigns. The said tract of land with all its appurtenances unto the said Wm. Peterson Tutor his heirs, Ex'ors, Adm'rs or assigns against all and all manner of persons shall and will warrant and defend forever by these presence. Hobbs Brunswick County T.C. We John Manning and Richard Fletcher justice of the peace in the County aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that William R. Carpenter and Polly his wife Parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 20th day of November 1832 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in Our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the Clerk of the County Court of Brunswick in order that the said deed may be recorded. We John Manning and Richard Fletcher justice of the Peace in the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Polly Carpenter the wife of William R. Carpenter parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 20th of Nov'r 1832 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being by us examined privily and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Polly Carpenter acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it. Carpenter & wife of the one part and Peterson Tudor of the other part was returned together with the certificates thereon and ordered to be recorded. Exam'd Teste R. Turnbull, C.B.C. Compiler's Note: The Deed Book is either 28, 29 or 30, based upon the year of the deed.
