Born at Kingsport, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Mayme Adams Perry. She had been a resident of Grundy most of her life and was of the Protestant faith. She was a former employee of Royal Laundry Co. in Grundy, a member of the Rebekkah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bevins was preceded in death by her first husband, John L. Prater; and by her second husband, Carl K. Bevins, Oct. 6, 1986. She is survived by three sons, David and wife, Penny Bevins, Grundy, Robert (Bull) and wife, Betty Bevins, Grundy and John L. and wife Doreen Prater, Grand Bay, Ala.; one sister, Joyce Clevinger, Grundy; one son-in-law, Frank Compton, Grundy; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Myra Compton, Oct. 17, 1997; one sister, Bernice "Bunt" Baker; and two brothers, Bill and L.D. Perry. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelists Michael Trent and Mike Rife officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va. Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. Active pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Robert John Bevins, David Carl Bevins, Bram Bevins, Donnie Compton, W.J. Taylor, Donna Ann Horn, Alice Adams, Karen Stiltner Fields, Pamela Taylor, Amy Thompson, Tigh Compton and Chad Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Clint Sutherland and staff, administration of Buchanan General Hospital, staff and administration of Heritage Hall Nursing Home and all her many friends and everybody she loved so well. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.
