Blankenship BREAKS, Va. -- General Jedeth "Jed" Blankenship, 80, passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Zekliah and Rebecca Coleman Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Olive Deloris Belcher Blankenship; sisters, Wilma Oquinn, Annarae Hamilton and Florence Deel and one sister who died in infancy. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a retired UMWA mine worker and attended the Old Regular Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Gay Blankenship; a son, David Wade Blankenship of Breaks; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Shannon Blankenship of Breaks; two stepdaughters, Vickie Swiney of Breaks and Tina Sykes of Prater; one stepson, Larry Eugene Looney of Breaks; three step-grandchildren, Joshua Looney of Breaks, Jordon Sykes of Prater and Cynthia Duffy of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Curtis Blankenship of Garden City, Mich.; and two sisters Edith Charles of Breaks and Alma Gay Hadwick of Cleveland, Ohio. The funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Little Jocie Church at Breaks with Elders Frank O'quinn, David O'quinn and Jerry Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Jocie Church Cemetery. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. American Legion Post 164 of Grundy will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Friday at Haysi Funeral Home where an evening service will be held at 6 p.m. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
