Born in Buchanan County, Va.,. he was the son of the late Starlin Boyd and Maude Lester Boyd Fletcher. He was a retired electrician for the Buchanan County School Board. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Randall Edd Boyd; three brothers, Lowey I. Boyd, Curtis W. Boyd and Claude H. Boyd; one sister, Edna Boyd; and one son-in-law, Larry Melton. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia (Jean) Ratliff Boyd; three daughters, Dreama Sue Melton of Charlotte, N.C., and Audrey Ann Perkins and husband Clayton of Vansant and Regina OQuinn and husband Dennis of Birchleaf, Va.; two brothers, Therman Boyd of Grundy and Virgil Boyd of Tazewell, Va.; two sisters, Pauline Ball of Kingsport and Dorothy Hess of Grundy; and three grandchildren, Lori Melton Dawson, Lisa Jean Perkins and Todd Martin Perkins. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel in Keen Mountain, Va.,. with Elder Jackie Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Boyd Family Cemetery at Deskins. Pallbearers will be Todd Perkins, Larry Boyd, James Ratliff, Gary Boyd, Arlie Boyd and Roger Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Boyd, Clinton Ratliff, Ray Ratliff, Fred Meadows, Larry Cook, Bill Cook, Grayson Perkins and Delmar Osborne.
