Born in Buchanan County on June 8, 1920, he was the son of the late Robert Coleman and Sylvia Owens Coleman, a U.S.Air Force World War II veteran, a member of American Legion Post 164, retired coal miner, member of UMWA, was the former owner and operator of Coleman's Discount Store, Vansant, and attended Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Baldridge; four sisters; and four brothers. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edith Nell Boyd Coleman of Vansant; four daughters, Ruth Ann Fuller of Vansant, Mary Sue Crigger of Yukon, W.Va., Deborah Lynn Stiltner of Maxie, Va., and Tammy D. Tiller of Vansant; and one sister, Leenell Burks of Swords Creek, Va. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Funeral servcies will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Ezra Davis Jr. and Elder Landon Colley officiating. Burial will follow in Coleman Cemetery on Leemaster, Vansant. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion. The body will remain at the funeral home where friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday. Evening service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. The family of Carl Coleman is being served by Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy.
