Boyd GRUNDY -- Claude H. Boyd, 84 years of age, of the Slate Creek area, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Starlin and Maude Lester Boyd. He was a life-long resident of the Grundy area and was a life- long member of Grundy Baptist Church. He was a member of IOOF Lodge No. 17 of Grundy, Moose Lodge and a former member of the Grundy Kiwanis Club. Mr. Boyd was one of the original pioneers of the Heat Pump Designs and a member of the Refrigeration Society. He served on the Board of Directors of Buchanan County Library and was a former advisor for Buchanan County Vocational School. He was past president of Buchanan County Horseman Society, receiving various state titles and national recognition and was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Federation. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and life member of the Harley Davidson Owners Group. He was former owner and operator of Boyd Refrigeration and owner of Boyd Mobile Home Park. Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his first wife, Vergie Lee Matney Boyd, Nov. 20, 1995. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Doris Lester Clark Boyd, Grundy; two sisters, Pauline and husband, James Ball, Kingsport and Dorothy Hess, Grundy; three brothers, Thurman and wife Stella Boyd, Grundy, Virgil and wife Blanche Boyd, Pocahontas, Va., and Edd and wife Jean Boyd, Vansant; and his faithful dog, "Butch". He was preceded in death by one daughter, Claudia Lee Boyd; one sister, Edna Boyd; and two brothers, Curtis and Louey Boyd. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Grundy Baptist Church, Grundy, with Rev. Howell Scott officiating with entombment to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, Va. Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. The body of Mr. Boyd will be moved to Grundy Baptist Church Monday morning at 11 a.m. to await the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Gary Boyd, Larry Boyd, Arlie Boyd, Mack Keen, Junior Boyd, Allen Boyd, Clinton Boyd, David Matney, Doug Matney and Randall Matney. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.
