Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Childress Matney. She was the oldest member of the Hale Creek Primitive Baptist Church having been a member since 1924. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Auburn Collins; two daughters, Mable Keene and Clelia McKinney; one son, Jimmy Collins, five grandchildren; and 11 brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family in her generation. Mrs. Collins is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jackie (Loe Jean) Tackett of San Mateo, Fla., and Mrs. Jerry (Phillis Ann) Keene of Abingdon; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. , 2003, in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Elders Landon Colley, Jeffrey Arnold and Arron Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward Family Cemetery at Pilgrim Knob, Va. Pallbearers will be Cliff Ratza, Jeffrey Keene, Cody Keene, Teddy Keen, Robbie Tackett, Brad Gensheimer, Norm Heron, Clyde Matney and Gerald Collins. The family will receive friends at the Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday with services at 7 p.m. Friday. Singleton Funeral Service is serving the Collins Family.
