Gilbert VANSANT -- Carson Graden Gilbert, 84, of Route 1 (Laurel Branch) passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Mary Jackson Gilbert. He was a retired coal miner and of the Freewill Baptist Faith. Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife ,Ethel Mae Gilbert; a grandson, Daniel Gilbert; a granddaughter, Gail Mullins; three brothers, Dayton, Edd, and Evertt; and two sisters, Myrtle and Ada. Survivors include three daughters, Ruby Mae Hurley, Geneva Jackson and Zella Gay Deel, all of Vansant; seven sons, William Jackie Gilbert, Bobby Rufus Gilbert, Ernest Cooper Gilbert, Roger Carson Gilbert, Jessie Lee Gilbert, all of Vansant, Billy Ralph Gilbert of Raven, Va., and Tommy James Gilbert of Honaker; one brother, Stanford Gilbert of Davenport, Va.; 29 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at Haysi Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Burial will follow in Matt Jackson Cemetery, Route 1, Vansant. Pallbearers will be friends. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, where a song service will be held at 7 p.m. at Haysi Funeral Home. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
