Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Joseph Henry Hibbitts, Grundy, and the late Minnie Collins Hibbitts. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of Little Prater Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Army serving in the Corps of Engineers, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal. He was a retired employee of the State of Virginia. Mr. Hibbitts is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Ellen Woods Hibbitts, Grundy, and by his father, Joseph Henry Hibbitts, Grundy; two daughters: Rhonda Lee and husband, Darwin Whitt, Grundy; and Regina Lynn and husband, Thomas Hayes, Bastian, Va.; two sons: Billy Mahone Hibbitts II, Grundy; and Barrett Wayne Hibbitts, Grundy; two sisters: JoAnn Stiltner, Breaks, Va.; and Edna Boyd, Grundy; four brothers: Ralph Stacy, Fairborn, Ohio; Ernest Hibbitts, Manassas, Va.; Richard (Dee) Hibbitts, Grundy; and Clyde Hibbitts, Grundy; and four grandchildren, Thomas Gaston Hayes III, Peyton Faith Hayes, Ashlee Morgan Whitt and Kellie Grace Whitt. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Marie Hibbitts and Beatrice Joy Hibbitts; and one brother, Keister E. Hibbitts. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Little Prater Church of Christ, Route 4, Grundy, with Evangelist Michael Trent officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va. Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. The body of Mr. Hibbitts will be moved to the Little Prater Church of Christ Wednesday at noon to await the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Active pallbearers: nephews, Lenny Clyde Hibbitts, Mark Clinton Hibbitts, Robert Britton Hibbitts, Bradley Reed Hibbitts, Richard Dwayne Hibbitts, Clyde Randolph Woods, Christopher Allen Woods, Samuel Paul Murphy, Joseph Chadwick Franklin Stiltner, James Kenard Boyd, Ernest Kyle Hibbitts Jr. and David Joseph Hibbitts. Honorary pallbearers: Dr. Sharat Narayanan, Dr. William Lester, Melinda S. Clevinger, Yvonne Ward, Junior Hays, Raymond Iron, Auldy Cline, Charlie Woods, Arthur Woods, Clyde Woods and Kermit McClanahan. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.
