Moore GRUNDY -- John E. Moore, 90, of the Cow Town section passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in Buchanan General Hospital. Born in Louisiana on March 11, 1913, he was the son of the late John Edward Moore and Fannie E. Matthews Moore. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, member of Grundy United Methodist Church, active member of Grundy Rotary Club, Willowbrook Country Club and active fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society. He was an avid Virginia Tech Hokie fan and supporter of the athletic program. He was a former employee of Buchanan County Coal Corp. and had retired from United Coal Companies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Francis Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Audre Virginia Hatfield Moore of Grundy; one sister, Alice Moore of Columbia, S.C.; and one brother, Charles H. Moore of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Grundy United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul McNalley officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock. Active pallbearers will be Henry Farmer, Lee Church, Stuart Harris, Bob Dennis, Pet Williams, Willard Owens, Tom Holland and Oliver Upchurch. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Sutherland, Dr. Clint Sutherland, Jay McCallum, Edd Shortridge, Russell Belcher, Earl Dellinger, Gene Sutherland, Dennis A. Ramey, Robert (Bob) Gibson, Carl Puckett, Thomas Pruitt, Harold Trivett, Steve Hagy, George Owens, Dennis Wimmer, F.D. Robertson, Roger Powers, Alex Gibson, H.A. Street, Nick Street, Woodrow McGlothlin, James W. McGlothlin, former employees of United Coal Corp. and members of Grundy Rotary Club. The body will be taken to Grundy United Methodist Chruch Friday evening, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. The family of John E. Moore is being served by Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy.
