Born March 8, 1920, in Buchanan County, Va., he was a son of the late Arch and Nancy Harris Martin. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Baptist faith. He was a former coal miner and farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Maude Crauce; two brothers, Ed Martin and Clarence Martin; and one grandson, William Perkins. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Verdie Mae Coleman Martin of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Patsy) Martin and Mrs. Jerold (Sharon) Perkins, both of Honaker, and Mrs. Bob (Sue) Morrison of Abingdon; one son, Michael Lee Martin and his wife, Alice of Honaker; eight grandchildren, Donny Morrison, Matthew Morrison, Shawna Morrison, Mrs. Granger (Lynn) Hickman, Shawn Martin and his wife Mitzi, Aaron Perkins, Daniel Perkins and Allen Martin; three great-grandchildren, Whitley Morrison, Shelby Morrison and Kade Morrison; one sister, Nell Martin of Salem, Va.; and one brother, Ted Martin of Rowe. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Roger Hurley and Rev. Ralph Dye officiating. Interment will follow in the Martin Cemetery at Drill, Va. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
