Ratliff VANSANT -- Eva Mae Effler Ratliff, 77 years of age, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy. Born in McDowell County, W.Va.,. Oct. 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Henry Effler and Cecil Presley Effler. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Vansant Church of Christ. She was a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arville Ratliff; one brother, Garland Effler; and two sisters, Mary Lois Hess and Lethia Effler. She is survived by four daughters, Sandy Keene of Vansant, Va., Mrs. Bobby (Carol Kay) Church and Mrs. Noah (Charlene) Vandyke, both of Abingdon, and Mrs. George (Debbie) Childress of Vansant; one son, Terry Ratliff and wife Cheryl of Vansant; two sisters, Margaret Shelton of Lakeland, Fla., and Irene Carter of Herndon, W.Va. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, with Evangelist Mike Rife and Evangelist Jerry Bliffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Woods, W.S. (Red) Cook, Paul Smith, Junior Sexton and Heritage Hall Nursing staff C-Wing. The body will be left at the funeral home where friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Song service will be at 8 p.m. The family of Eva Mae Effler Ratliff is being served by Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy.
