Viers VANSANT -- Ernest Coy Viers, 86, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late John and Nannie Belle Viers. He was a member of the Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church, a retired coal miner and member of UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Erma K. Oquinn and Neva Jo Viers; brothers, Raymond, Howard and Bob Viers; sisters, Alice Viers, Nora Looney, Edna Looney, Carrie Owens and Leah Murphy; and one great-grandson. Survivors include his wife, Draxie Oquinn Viers; a daughter, Edna Sue Stiltner, Rosedale, Va.; a son, Coy Roger Viers, Vansant; four grandsons; three granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jimmy Dale Sanders, Terry Oquinn, Roger Coleman and David Oquinn. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Shannon Oquinn, Travis Oquinn, Kendall Oquinn, Lucas Stiltner, Donald Keene and Robert Vandyke. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Oquinn, Jeff Stiltner, Roger Street, Dr. Clint Sutherland and Jerry Wilson. The family will receive friends at Haysi Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Monday where an evening service will be held at 7 p.m. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
