Ward PATTERSON, Va. --Rev. Dewey G. Ward, 75, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, in a Grundy hospital following a short illness. Born March 4, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Maxie (Rife) Ward. He was a pastor of Deliverance Tabernacle Church in Patterson for 36 years, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 164. He was a disabled coal miner of Island Creek Coal Company and a former employee of G.M. Corp. of Flint, Mich., for 12 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ollie Blankenship Ward; five sisters, Carrie, Nellie and Victoria Ward, Velma Crouse and Caroline Randolph; and five brothers, Edward, Earl, Rex, Kirby and Fred Ward. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Beatrice Sizemore Ward; five sons, Ralph Ward of Williamson, W.Va., Danny Ward and wife Susie of Alabaster, Ala., David Ward and fiancee, Brenda of Richlands, Raymond Ward and wife Brenda of Tazewell and Andrew Ward and wife Wendy of Elizabeth City, N.C.; three daughters, Lois Martineau and husband Dan of Battle Creek, Mich., Phyllis Osborne and husband Clifford of Raven, Va., and Faithy Fuller and husband Mike of Grundy; seven sisters, Rev. Gertie Ward of Iaeger, W.Va., Grace Rife of Grundy, Mary Cartmell of Flint, Mich., Jean Young of Maulberry, Md., Stella Baker of Gordonsville, Va., Dorothy Stiltner of Grundy and Shirley Merritt of Abingdon; six brothers, Carlos, Jimmy, Elmer, Buford and Glen Astor Ward, all of Grundy, and Perry Donald Ward of Gordonsville, Va.; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain with Rev. Lawrence Horn and Rev. T.R. Stump officiating. Burial will follow in the Tom Ward Cemetery at Pilgrims Knob, Va. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Fred Meadows and the deacons of the Deliverance Tabernacle. John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion will conduct military honors. Friends may call at the Buchanan Funeral Service from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday. Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain is serving the Ward Family.
