BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Claiborne Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Claiborne cemetery: 1937 June 1 Research made by Rosa G. Williams Cemetery Location: 1.2 miles north of Dillwyn, Virginia on Route #15; thence 2 miles east on Route #650; thence 1 mile south by woods path. Buckingham County DATE: 1851, date of oldest grave marker. OWNERS: This cemetery was reserved by the Claiborne family when the place was sold to J.C. Blackwell many years ago. DESCRIPTION: This old cemetery is located in a large body of pine woods, in a cow pasture, about 1 mile from a dwelling. I found only one marker, if there were others they have been destroyed, there are no more graves visible, but I have been told by old inhabitants that there were others. This marker was very large. It was of granite rock with a beveled edge, with a hand carved near the top, with a finger pointing upward, with the following inscription over it. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Inscription on tombstone: There is rest in Heaven (over finger) John Claiborne was born May 11, 1764 Died August 3, 1851 SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informants: Mr. P.
