Williams Cemetery Location: 1 mile northwest of Hanes Chapel, Virginia on Route #617; thence .1 mile right on private road leading to the cemetery. Buckingham County OWNERS: Cemetery rites reserved by the Hanes family and their descendants. DESCRIPTION: There are many graves but only two have markers that are marked, these are old flat stones and are very large. A good many of the Hanes family are buried there but there are no markers to show just where the Hanes are buried. William Wesley Clarks was a student at Humanity Hall Academy, a school conducted by Elijah Garland Hanes. He died while in school and was buried in the old Hanes Cemetery. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sacred to the memory of William Wesley Clarke Son of George W. Clarke of Madison County Born September 4, 1832 Died June 19, 1853 21 years old Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth Hale Wife of Ambrose Ford and daughter of William and Jane Holman Born August 2, 1814 Married February 16, 1835 Died October 16, 1841 Faithful in the Holy relations of wife, child and mother True to her saviour and herself. She fulfilled short mission and died in the assurance of hope of the resurrection unto life.
