BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Humanity Hall Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Humanity Hall graveyard: 1937 Feb. 18 Research made by Elizabeth McCraw Cemetery Location: 3.8 miles north of Dillwyn, Virginia, on Route #15, thence 3 miles west on Route #617, thence north on private road 1 mile. Buckingham County DATE: 1841. Oldest grave marker. OWNERS: Fords, the original owners. Col. E. G. Hanes Hunting Club, the present owner. (1937) DESCRIPTION: By the side of the road in what was once the garden is found two very interesting grave stones, which are large flat marble slabs. This graveyard is unusual in that it is in an open field and clean of vines, undergrowth and even trees, which is not characteristic of old graveyards. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: On the slabs are the following inscriptions: Sacred to the Memory of William Wesley Clark Son of George W. Clark of Madison Co., Va. Born Sept. 4, 1832 Died June 19, 1853 The grave hath won thee, we shall hear the gush Of music and the voices of the Young And life will pass us in the mantling blush And the dark tresses to the soft wind flung, But thou no more with they sweet face shall Come to meet us, Wesley Scholastici H.H. Academy Sacred to the Memory of Elizabeth Hales Wife of Ambrose Ford And daughter of William and Jane Holman born August 7, 1814 Died October 16, 1841 Married February 18, 1835 Faithful In the holy relations of wife, child, mother, True to her Savior and herself. She fulfilled her short mission and died in the Sure and certain hope of the resurrection unto life.
