BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Lancaster Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, The Lancaster graveyard: 1937 Feb. 2 Research made by Elizabeth McCraw Cemetery Location: 2.5 miles northwest of Curdsville, Va., on Route #633, thence 200 yards south of road in a field. Buckingham County DESCRIPTION: On the estate now owned by a Mr. Ferguson, but originally the Tom McCraw home, and probably the Lancasters lived here or near here is a very old burying ground, which is known as the Lancaster Graveyard. As the only graves marked are to Lancasters. These markers are flat marble slabs covering the entire grave. The graves are also enclosed with a iron fence. The place is in very good condition and state of preservation. Following are the inscriptions copied from the slabs. In Memory of Hester Ann Wife of Samuel B. Christian of Buckingham County Born March 16, 1821 Died May 5, 1852 In Memory of Nathaniel Lancaster Who was born in Cumberland County September 27, 1790 And died in Buckingham County March 19, 1841 He will always be held in grateful remembrance by those who knew him best.
