Williams Cemetery Location: 4 miles west of Buckingham, Virginia on Route #60, thence 7 miles southwest on Route #24; thence east 1.4 miles on Route #636. Cemetery about 25 yards north of highway. Buckingham County DATE: 1876, date of oldest grave marker. OWNERS: Altho the old Lewis home has been sold, the cemetery remains the property of the Lewis family as that was reserved. DESCRIPTION: This cemetery is being well kept by descendants of the Lewis family. It is enclosed by a wire fence, the graves are all well kept, a few rose bushes have been planted there. Only two markers of early date are here, although there are many graves that have no markers. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Rev. Joseph Lewis was the first pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, which was organized 1875, and he served as postor there until his death. Inscriptions on tombstones: Rev. Joseph S. Lewis Born June 4th, 1846 Died Oct. 17th, 1876 Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord Benjamine Archer Lewis Born May 4th. 1844 Died July 13th. 1888 Both of the markers are very plain large marble slabs.
