BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Patterson Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Patterson graveyard: 1937 Feb. 2 Research made by Elizabeth McCraw Cemetery Location: 1.8 miles west of Andersonville, Virginia, on Route #640, thence south 3 miles on Route #612, thence 150 yards in the orchard of the O’Briens. Buckingham County DATE: 1835. The oldest grave marker. OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: At the intersection of the roads from Sheppards to Chestnut Grove and Sheppards to Andersonville, stands an old house that was a tavern before the War. Just a short distance back of this old house, is the Patterson family burying ground. It is clean and in better condition than most old graveyards in the country. The tombstones are unusual in size and shape, being about two and a half feet high, the inscription written in the round part. The markers are of a kind of black rock. There are a number of unmarked graves. Only three are marked. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The tombstone inscriptions follow: P. Patterson August 29, 1843 P.V. Davis July 14, 1840 M.S.
