BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Ranson Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, The Ranson graveyard: 1937 Feb. 10 Research made by Elizabeth McCraw Cemetery Location: On Fish Pon Creek 1 mile west of Route #15 back of Fools Corner. Buckingham County DATE: 1852. The oldest grave marked. OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: The Ranson burying ground is a place in interest. About one acre of ground is covered with lovely periwinkle and Lily of the Valley, the latter a mass of fragrant white bloom, when visited. There are a number of graves, but only three are marked. These have large upright marble slabs. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: On Fish Pon Creek in a dense body of woods west of Fools Corner is the old W.D. Ranson place. The old house was burned some years ago. The tombstone inscriptions follow: In Memory of John Henry Ranson Born April 2, 1816 Died January 8, 1856 In hope of eternal Life through Christ Be ye therefore also ready For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again Even them also that sleep in Jesus will God bring With Him. In Memory of Cary A.S. Cobbs Who departed this life March 20, 1855 In the 42 year of her life Sacred To the Memory of William Goodwin Son of John and S.M. Ranson Born July 24, 1819 Died October 3, 1852 Early lost, early saved. He cannot come to us, but we may go to him. E’re Sin could blight or sorrow fade Death timely came with friendly care And bade it bloom forever there.
