BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Shepard Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, The Shepard graveyard: 1937 Feb. 17 Research made by Elizabeth McCraw Cemetery Location: 6.3 miles east of Dillwyn, Virginia, on Route #60, thence 1 mile south on Route #628, thence .5 mile on private road. Buckingham County DATE: 1865. The oldest grave. DESCRIPTION: The family burying ground of the Burwell Shepard family at the ancestral home “Pine Forest” is on the brow of a hill about 500 yards from the house. There are a number of large pine trees shading the plot, and small boxwood and other evergreen shrubs are here and there among the graves. While the ground is covered with periwinkle, every thing is clean and well kept. A splendid rock wall encloses the graves. An expensive monument stands in the center of the yard as a memorial to the members of the family buried here.
