Williams Cemetery Location: 4 miles west of Buckingham Court House, Virginia on Route #60; thence 1 mile south on private road leading to cemetery. Buckingham County DATE: 1820, date of oldest grave marker. OWNERS: This cemetery is now owned by the Ellis family: Mrs. Ellis being a descendant of William H. Perkins. DESCRIPTION: This cemetery is located in a large body of pines, but beautifully kept by the present generation. It has a five foot rock wall, with steps of rock leading over the wall. There are many markers, very expensive ones, but of a late date. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Inscriptions on tombstones: Sacred to the memory of Mildred Walker Perkins who was born 3rd. Sept. 1794 and departed this life 7th. Nov. 1841 age 47 years 65 days. Endowered by her maker a clear and strong discriminating intellect possessing remarkable decision and energy of character, guided by high christian principals. She exhibited no ordinary degree of moral worth, She was kind to the poor, dealing comfort to the distressed, was loved at home and abroad. Fondely devoted to the happiness of her children in whose hearts her memory will be tenderly cherished. She now enjoys that rest that remaineth for the people of God. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. This is a flat marble stone laid on a two foot foundation of brick. Sacred to the memory of William H. Perkins he was born 9th Sept. 1780 and died 11th. December 1820 In death society has lost a valuable citizen, his wife, an affectionate husband and his children a tender father, his servants a kind master. Lived beloved, died lamented by all who knew him. This is a flat slate tomb on a two foot rock foundation. William H. Perkins was a very prominent lawyer of Buckingham.
