VA. He enlisted in Buckingham Co. and served at various times, amounting to about twenty-one months in all, as private with the Virginia troops under two different captains by the name of John Mosely, Captains Thomas Radd, Thomas W. Ewell, Webb, Nathaniel Cunningham and Graves and Colonels Gibson and Buford and he was discharged on November 7, 1781, from Captain Nathaniel Cunningham's company. He was int he battle of Guilford Court House and the siege of Yorktown. After the close of the war he moved to Washington County, Va near King's Salt Works, from there to Rhea County TN, from there to Bledsoe Co TN. He was allowed pension on his application executed August 15, 1832, at which time he was a resident of Bledsoe Co, TN. Charles died on December 16, 1848. He married July 29, 1790 in Lee County Virginia, Barbara Pickknell. She died on December 14, 1849, in Bledsoe Co TN leaving the following children, William who was 58, in 1855. John was born in 1800 and was living in Bledsoe Co TN in 1855. Frederic, Elizabeth Carnahan, Henry, Charles and Margaret Thurman. Mary Ann who was born in 1791 and Thomas Thurman or Thurmon did not survive their mother.
