Obituary of Mary May, 1839 - Buckingham Co. VA From the Richmond Whig and Public Advertiser, Friday May 3, 1839, p.2 "DIED. Near Maysville, on Friday, the 5th of April, in the 19th year of her age, Miss MARY MAY, youngest daughter of the late Thomas May of Buckingham. It were needless now to speak of the personal charms, and the many lovely and endearing qualities of the deceased. These are but too well and too fondly remembered by the mourners whom she has left. Her heart was guileless, gentle, and affectionate, and her character adorned with every womanly virtue - she met the "king of terrors" with that sweet composure and resignation, which can only be derived from an undoubting reliance on the mercy of God, and the anticipation of the joys of Heaven. Though cut off in the spring time of life, her pure and spotless spirit, passed away without a murmur at her untimely lot. Her patience, meekness and gentleness in her last moments were truly affecting. She evinced a forgetfulness even of death, in her affectionate regard for the feelings of those around her. May the hope of meeting her in a better world, soothe the anguish which has been caused by this sad and afflicting bereavement."
