The 1793 will of Charles Cottrell of Buckingham County, Virginia was
mentioned in the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, Volume 38, Number 2, May
2000, Page 128 in an article called, "Embers Amongst the Ashes -- Old
Buckingham Wills" by Roger G. Ward.

In the name of God, Amen. I Charles Cottrell of Buckingham County being
sound in mind and memory thanks be to God do make this my last Will and
Testament in manner and form following: first I give to my wife Elliner
Cottrell two feather beds and furniture two tables Desk chest and skillet to
her and her heirs forever all the rest of my estate -----------I lend to my
wife during her life or widowhood my will in that all and every one of my
negroes be freed at the death of my wife. I give two hundred and fifty acres
of land to be equally divided between the whole of my negroes to them and
their heirs forever. All the rest of my lands and all my stock and household
furniture I give to Richard Cottrell son of Jacob Cottrell to him and his
heirs forever. My desire is that there be no appraisement of my estate I do
hereby constitute and appoint my wife Ellenner Cottrell my Executrix and my
friend Hardin Perkins my Executor to this my last Will and Testament as
witness my hand and affixed my seal this fifteenth day of February in the
year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three.

At a Court held for Buckingham County - the 10th day of June 1793. This Will
was proved by the oaths of Hardin Perkins, Arthur Nunnally, and Jacob
Cottrell witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded.
