BELL COMPANY LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA 1927 Anderson George Anderson, a member of Augusta District Militia in 1742, though he moved to Bedford county, was in 1758 still attached to the same military company. He appears to have married twice, the second time to a widow, Mrs. Cofer. His will written in 1778 bequeathed his landed property to his son, Jacob. This son, and his two sons, William and John, were listed with the Bedford county militia, in which Jacob held office of sergeant. His daughter, Sarah Anderson, married Jeremiah Early. Jacob Anderson married Mary, daughter of Colonel William Callaway and his wife, Elizabeth Tilley. Their children were: —William, m., 1783, his cousin, Sarah, dau. of Colonel Jeremiah and Sarah Anderson-Early. William Anderson was sheriff of Campbell in 18O5; died 18O6. —Mary, m., 18O6, Richmond C. Tyree, and moved to Tennessee. —John, m., 1810, Lucy Walton, moved to Lafayette county, Missouri. -Matilda, m., 1810, Pleasant Tyree, and moved to Tennessee. -Elizabeth, m., 1816, Samuel Tyree, also moved from Campbell. —James Callaway, m., 1819, Jane R., dau. of James C. and Janet Robinson-Moorman. James C. Anderson served in the war of 1812. —Lucinda, m., 1811, Rev. Thomas Callaway, son of Col. Jas. and Elizabeth Early-Callaway. -Docia, m., John Price. -Jeremiah Early, m. Elizabeth Brooks. Jerry E. Anderson owned a large tract of land on Goose creek and Staunton river upon which he built a handsome home, Clover Hill, on brick foundation, with cornice of dental pattern: the interior finely finished with carved chair boarding in both stories, and stairways, front and back, lead to divided suites for male and female members of the household. Large slabs of light colored native stone are used for exterior steps. This residence rests upon a level plateau overlooking extensive bottoms and heigths across the river. Anderson sold the property in 1836 to Stephen P. Smith of Pittsylvania; a tract of 3OO acres, together with 1OO acres on Chell's ford adjoining Thomas Leftwich, Mrs. Sally Anderson, and William A. Lee: also 6OO acres in Pittsylvania,-on the west side of Callaway's road,—lying upon Staunton river, the sale being by gross and not by acre. Clover Hill is situated near Leesville and is now owned by Walter Smith, of Lynchburg, a grandson of Stephen P. Smith, and son of John T. and Mary King Dunnington-Smith, the property having remained in .the Smith family nearly one hundred years. Jerry E. Anderson moved to Odessa, Missouri; his son, William, Jr., m. a daughter of George P. Venable. —John, son of Jacob and Mary C. Anderson, m. Sarah, dau. of Capt. Chas. and Jxidith Early Callaway; children, Judith Early, m. Thomas Franklin; Martha J., m. Capt. John Franklin; Catherine, m. Morton Pannill: Sarah J., m. C. G. Terry; Jacob H_, m. Sarah J. Leftwich. — Docia, dau. of Jacob and Mary C. Anderson, m. Rev. Abner Early (youngest son of Col. Jer'h and Sarah A.
