H. EARLY With Illustrations J. P. BELL COMPANY LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA 1927 Bailey In 1754 William Bailey, a soldier in the Virginia militia, was killed at the battle of the Meadows. Henry Bailey served in the French and Indian war. In 1784 Savage Bailey, son and heir of John Bailey, patented 475 acres lying on the west side of Falling river. Marriages, 1788: Kesiah Bailey m. John Evans; 1789, Robert Bailey married Lucy Smith; 1794 Thomas Bailey m. Temperance Bailey; Sarah Bailey m. Adam Driskell. In 1803 Thomas Bailey married Elizabeth Timberlake. He had moved in 18O1 from Goose Creek, Bedford county. In 1798 Susan Bailey married Thomas Shepherd. Josiah Bailey moved from Dinwiddie in 18O2; married Susannah Ballard in 18O4; was a member of Ivy Creek Meeting the same year, and clerk of South River Meeting in 18O9; moved to Miami Meeting, Ohio, with seven children in 1812. Jonathan Bailey married, in 18O8, Sarah Butler: in 1821 Abner Bailey married Charlotte Cocke. In 1817 John and Lucy Bailey sold Thomas Rudd 386 acres lying on Big Falling river, land which Bailey had previously bought of Rudd. The same year John Bailey bought of John and Nancy Rosser 215 acres on Bear Creek, lying on both sides of Lawyer's road and adjoining the lands of Richard Daniel, Micajah, John and William Hubbard, James Shannon and Lindsay Crawley: in the deed of transfer Bailey records himself as then resident in Charlotte county. Exum and Anna Bailey moved to South River from Dinwiddie during 1817. Philip Bailey was a Revolutionary pensioner, 85 years old, in 1835. In 1771 Richard Bailey patented 2O3 acres on both sides of Maple creek a branch of Blackwater. In 1798 Gregory Matthews sold Thomas Bailey 65 acres along Todd's and Driskell’s old line ridge path crossing Ivy creek. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
