BELL COMPANY LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA 1927 Floyd Dr. Nathaniel Wilson Floyd, born 1793 near Louisville, Ky., son of Captain Charles and Mary Stewart-Floyd (of Hanover county), who accompanied George Rogers Clark to Kentucky, married in 1819 at Locust Grove, Bedford county, Elizabeth West, the daughter of Major John Nelson Anderson (who served in the Revolution under "Light-Horse" Harry Lee), and his wife, Elizabeth West, daughter of Captain John Jones, also a Revolutionary officer, and wife, Frances Barbour, daughter of Lane and grand-daughter of Orlando Jones, noted lawyer of Williamsburg, whose father, Roland Jones, was the first rector of Bruton parish. Mary Stewart was the daughter of Captain John Stewart and Annie Haw, his wife, of Henrico county. Dr. Floyd bought land on Ivy creek, Campbell county, about 182O, and erected a home there, calling it Brook field, a few miles west of Lynchburg. He discontinued the practice of medicine, died 1866, his wife in 1883; children: —Charles Anderson, m. Mildred, the daughter of Hardin Perkins; enlisted in the Confederate cavalry company under Colonel Radford, and was killed April 6th, 1865 in the battle at Sailor's creek; left a family of nine children. —Captain Nathaniel Bedford, m. Ellen M. Stith, of Texas; was a member of the 6th Texas Regiment of the Confederate army. —Captain Nicolas Jackson, m. Mary M. Morrow of Louisiana; served under General Wilcox in the Confederate army. —Annie Pauline, m. Colonel Henry Ward Adams of "The Mansion," and "Monteflora," near Alta Vista, Campbell county. —Mary Amelia, m. James Aug. Wiggins, of Alabama. —Elizabeth West, m. Alexander Spotswood Perkins of Alabama. —John Buchanon, m. Fannie M. Harris, of Alabama; he served in General Wheeler's cavalry of the Confederate army. —Letitia Preston, m. Captain John C. Featherston, of Alabama, who had been wounded at the battle of Gettysburg and was brought to Dr. Floyd's home, where he was nursed to health. He was son of Howell Colston Featherston of Alabama, and his wife, Dulaney Odom. Captain Featherston entered the C. S. army as lieutenant of the 9th Alabama Regiment, Wilcox's brigade, and was promoted to the captaincy. He lived at Evergreen, near Lynchburg, but during the later years of his life purchased a home in the city to which he moved his family. Elected to Virginia Legislature in 1896, he served eight years: was a member at the art commission for placing bronze statues of George Washington and Robert E. Lee in Statuary Hall at Washington Capitol. He was appointed business agent for Virginia Farmer's State Grange and United States Agricultural Statistician for Virginia. Children: —Nathaniel Floyd, held position in Treasury Department, Washington. —Howell Colston, attorney-at-law, of Lynchburg, represented Campbell county in Virginia Legislature, 1907-O8; author of "Origin and History of Lynch Law" an article in "The Green Bag" of Boston. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
