BELL COMPANY LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA 1927 Kabler In 18O7 Frederick Kabler bought of Richard and Judith Chilton 293 acres of land at the junction of Blackwater and Rock Castle creeks from Timberlake's line to Charles Johnston's corner crossing Tomahawk creek on the division line between Alexander and John Burton; again in 1813 Kabler bought of Ambrose and Jane Brown 74 acres at the head of Tomahawk creek along John W. Bradley's and Thompson's lines; in 1823 Kabler added 206 acres to his estate, land purchased from Joseph and Martha Thompson; and in 1846 made a further addition of 14O.84 acres which adjoined the property of Dr. Nathaniel W. Floyd and Jas. Addison Meriwether. Kabler was a surveyor by profession, and accumulated other lands. His widow, Catherine Kabler, received the Robert Burton tract as her dower; other tracts were the Wilkerson tract, the Hobson tract and two tracts lying along Tomahawk and Rock Castle creeks (branches of Blackwater). Thaddeus Kabler, son of Frederick, in 1821 married Mary, the daughter of Conrad Speece. He sold the land heired from his father's estate and bought tracts on both sides of the road near New London adjoining property his wife had received from the Speece estate. Here he built a residence on the outskirts of the old town, which was burned down some years since. His land was skirted on one side by Cottontown road, which in early days had been laid off by Richard Callaway. Thaddeus Kabler lived to be 92 years old. His son, Dr. T. L. Kabler, married Mildred Peyton, the daughter of John Clark and Catherine Leftwich-Moorman; and resided at New London. Children—Dr. Nicolas L., m. Gus Flippen; is resident physician at New London;—Clark Moorman, m. Rosalie Labby of Federal Hill;—Ellen Douglass, m.
