John and Rebecca Preston, with their eight minor children, moved from Goose creek in Loudoun county to South River Meeting in 1792; these children were: -Zenas m. Elizabeth . . .; children, Albert, Vickers and Urban. —John, Jr., In 1798, was disowned by the Society of Friends for laying wagers. —Amos moved in 181O to New Garden Meeting in Ohio. —Moses was among the witnesses, in 1798, to marriages at South River Meeting. —Sarah. —Peter. —Ann. —William. John and Rebecca Preston were witnesses to the marriage of William Davis (son of Samuel and Annis Davis), to Zelinda, the dau. of John and Mary Lynch, in 1793. Rebecca Preston was clerk of South River Meeting in 18O3. Motto on Preston coat-of-arms, "Leaving the towers of earth, we soar, D. V. to heaven." Marriages —Margaret Preston m. John T., son of Samuel and Anne Lipscombe-Davis, formerly of Louisa county, moved to Bedford; they were buried at South River Meeting burial ground; -Pleasant Preston m. Annie Elizabeth, the dau. of Thomas and Rachel Davis of Lynchburg, Capt. Samuel Preston, an officer in the Confederate army and at-torney-at-law, was a son;—Moses Hurt Preston, son of Isaac and Sallie Hurt-Preston, m. Elizabeth D., dau. of Richard Tyree. John Preston, born 1791, m. Martha B., the dau. of Captain Joshua and Martha Strange-Early, and moved in 1834 from Campbell to a residence twenty-seven miles from Nashville, Term. Children of this marriage were: —Martha E. m. Abner E. Christian, Jr., son of Abner, Sr., and Frances E. Christian. —Stephen Smith, a captain in the Confederate army, m. Ann M. Keyes, of Aberdeen, Miss. Capt. Preston represented his county in Tennessee several years previous to his removal to Memphis, where he was living in 19OO. —Captain William B. was killed in the Confederate army; left two sons and two daughters. —Margaret E. m. James Coskey, and had three daughters. —Docia K. m. Daniel Du Bose, who was killed in the Confederate army. —Capt. Thos. Pleasant, killed 1864 in the Confederate army, left 3 daughters. —Amorilla . . .; —John Clement m. ______ a farmer in Grimes county, Tenn. —Joshua E., born 1841, held office in the Confederate army; later was an attorney-at-law, Navasota, Texas. —James Steptoe, unmarried, killed in the Confederate army. —Frances Early. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
