Tate Spring, situated on the property of Colonel Edmund Tate, near Lynchburg, became much frequented for its chalybeate and sulphur mineral water. Col. Tate planned splendid improvements at the spring, but he died before his scheme could be carried out. In 1828 a ballroom and cottages were erected and balls were held there occasionally, but the last one was broken up by a terrible storm and they were not repeated. Through intermarriage with the Murrell family the property came into the possession of the latter and is still held by them. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
