WIMBISH, will, dated 10 Feb 1848; codicil, dated 17 Feb 1848; proved May court, 1849 ********** In the name of God. I Abram W. Wimbish being of Sound and disposing mind do make this my last will and testament revoking all others heretofore made by me. Item first: I give to my wife my house & all my land near Brookneal to have and to hold a fee Simple title to it; &, the following Slaves to dispose of as she may Think best at her death namely, Harry and his wife Silvester and all their children, Sandy, Winney, John, Guna Allen and his wife Dicy. Rhode and Tish. Item 2nd: I give to my wife my carriage & horses. Item 3d: I give to my wife one third of the remainder of my estate to have and to hold during her natural life. Item 4th: The balance of my estate both real and personal I wish to be equally Divided among my children. Item 5th: I hereby appoint Samuel Pannill and John Pannill my executors. And I do not wish them to be required to give any security for their faithful execution of this will. I empower my Executors to sell any of my estate real or personal not specifically bequeathed to my wife for the purpose of paying debts. Wimbish do make this as a codicil to this my last will & testament. I give in addition to what I have given my wife, my boy William (my dining room servant) all household and kitchen furniture and all the provisions which may be on hand at my house at Brookneal at my death to have and to dispose of as she may Think best at her death. Ganett At a court held for Campbell County May Term 1849, the last will and testament of Abram W. Wimbish deceased was produced in court proven by the oaths of John C. Murrell and William A. Miller, Witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded: And on motion of Samuel Pannill one of the Executors in said will named, who made oath thereto and entered into a bond in the penalty of $100,000. Conditioned according to Law without Security - there being no security required by the court. Leave is granted him for obtaining Probate of said will in due form of Law. Teste: Geo. W. Dabney, Ck. A copy: Teste: Robert W. Williams, C. ***NOTES *** Abraham W. Wimbish was born c1804, the son of Maj. John Wimbish (d. 1818, Halifax Co., VA) and 2nd wife Nancy [Williams] Wimbish. Abraham married Judith [Pannill] in Campbell Co., VA on February 22, 1827. Although Abraham W. Wimbish chose not to detail his wife's and children's names, they were: Wife: Judith, daughter of Samuel Pannill of Green Hill Plantation (Campbell / Halifax Counties) Children: Samuel Pannill Wimbish, b. March 5, 1831, married Elizabeth Townes, daughter of Edward. Abram W. Wimbish, b. May 9, 1838, married Fannie Hunt Townes, daughter of Edward. Lilla J. [Wimbish], b. c1840, married June 8, 1861, Albemarle Co., VA. G. A. Hancock. Eleanor [Wimbish], b. c1846 married John Alexander of Albemarle Co., VA.
