Will of Hannah Watkins, August 28, 1837 In the name of God Amen I Hannah Watkins being weak and sick in body think it proper to dispose of what property I have in the following manner. It is my will and desire that my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my personal estate and it is my will and desire and I give to my two neices Mary Pugh and Sally Pugh who are daughters of my brother Joathan Pugh the tract of land with its appurtenances whereon I reside the feasimple right to be in Mary Pughand Sarah Pugh to have half the profits during her the said Sallys life and Mary Pugh to give at her death said property to such child or children of her brother David Pugh as she thinks proper to give it to. To my nephew David Pugh, son of Jonathan, I give the amount of the bond as given by said David to Moses Watkins on account of the debt paid Robertson by said Moses out of my dec'd. husband Robert Watkins' estate. I consider said bonds my prperty as I have been compelled to pay the debt for which they were given but if it should be detrmined by law that I am not entitled to them it is my wil that they be paid out of my personal estate if there is that much after paying my debts and funeral expenses. To Mary Ann Pugh and Mariah Louisa Pugh daughters of Lot Pugh, dec'd. I give each a bed. And to Betsey Martin the daughter of Hannah Martin dec'd. I gave a bed. To negro man Jim I give six dollars that sum being due him. To my negro woman that have waited on me I give my bed clothes and my wearing clothes and if there is any money left after carrying the foregoing bequeaths into effect I give to Washington A. Pugh son of Lot Pugh dec'd. I give fifty dollars in witness whereof I have caused my name to be signed hereunto August 28, 1837. In the presence of Thomas Dixon, Joseph Dinwiddie John Thornhill. Hannah Watkins At a Court held for Campbell County March 11, 1839 the foregoing last will and testament of Hannah Watkins deceased was this day presented in court proved by the oaths of Thomas Dixon John Thornhill witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of David Pugh who made oath thereto and together with John Thornhill his security entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of eight hundred dollars conditioned for said Excorsdue and faithful administration on said decedents estate and performance of her will.
