Crittenton of the Georgia line for more than 2 years. Inscribed on the Roll of Richmond, Va. at the rate of 480 Dollars and -- cents per annum, to commence on the 4th day of March, 1831. Certificate of Pension issued the 12 day of July, 1838 & sent to Jno. G. Crump, Clerk Book A Vol. 2 Page 159 MAIN DECLARATION State of Virginia, Campbell County Be it known That on this 13th day of January in the year Eighteen Hundred and Thirty Eight personally appeared before me, James Bullock, the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Campbell, in the State of Virginia, Mrs. Ann Scott, a resident of said county, aged seventy .. years (and by reason of her age and bodily infirmity, unable to attend in person, the court of this county, which is held about seventeen or eighteen miles from her residence, who being duly sworn according to law, and on her oath, made the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions, made by the Act of Congress, passed the Fourth of July, Eighteen Hundred and Thirty Six. That she is the widow of William Scott, deceased, who was a Captain of the Revolution, in the Continental service - That he entered the service, as the affiant believed in the year Seventeen Hundred and Seventy Six, or Seven (she is not certain in which) for the war. That he was first a Lieutenant and afterward promoted to the place of Captain and served his country service the whole revolutionary struggle - That he was engaged in battle at Great Bridge, near Norfolk, Virginia - That he marched from Virginia to the State of Georgia along with Captain Thomas Scott, Lieutenant .... Cook, and Ensign Nathan Abbott - and on entering Savannah, was placed under Colonel Crittenton of the Georgia line on Continental Service - That he was engaged in Battle at Briar Creek, and there taken a prisoner - carried to Savannah and confined there during the siege of that place - All of that service and other (as the affiant is informed) is fully evidenced by documentary testimony filed with the ...... of Virginia, and in the proper offices at Washington City, to which reference is here made -Upon exact testimony, showing a service during the whole war, the said Capt. William Scott, received from the State of Virginia four thousand acres of land - and also his compensation pay from the General Government. She, the said Ann Scott, further declared that she was married to the said Captain William Scott on the first day of March, in the year seventeen hundred and eighty one (1st. March, 1781) - That her husband, the aforesaid William Scott, died on the sixteenth day October in the year eighteen hundred and seventeen - and that she hath remained his widow ever since that period - as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed. (Signed) Ann Scott The foregoing Declaration was sworn to, and subscribed by Mrs. Ann Scott, widow of Captain William Scott, deceased, before me Mr. James Bullock, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the County of Campbell, State of Virginia, on the day and year first before written - i.e. 13th January, 1838. I certify that the said Ann Scott is a lady of high standing and great respectability - That she has been known to me personally for nearly forty years. Ann Jones (Daughter of Gabriel and Martha Jones) was born the 13th March An. D. 1763. William Scott (Son of Tho. and Martha Scott) was married to Ann Scott (Daughter of the aforesaid Gabriel and Mary Jones) March the 1st. Anno Domini 1781-- The above couple was married by the Reverend W. Martha Williams Scott (Daughter and Second child to Wm. & Ann Scott) was born on Tuesday, the 4th of March, 1783, at Mount Pleasant, Spottsylvania --- and Baptized in Caroline by the Rev. W. Dick-- Surites Miss Sarah Farrish & Miss Ann Rogers, Mr. Danson Rogers & Mr. George Connor Gabriel Jones Scott, third child and first son of Wm. & Ann Scott was born on Friday the 11th Day of June 1784 At Mount Pleasant, Spottsylvania County -- And baptized at the above mentioned place by the Rev. Archibald Dick -- Surites Ann Scott, Frances Pollard, Lucy Carter, Sara Pollard, Judith Roy. Gentlemen Saml. Scott, Hugh Roy, Wm. Robert Clan Scott, Fourth Child and second Son of William & Ann Scott, was born on Monday the 12th Day of February, 1787, And was Baptized by the Reverend W. Porter in .......--- Kathy Baughn Scott, Fifth Child and Third Daughter (of William & Ann Scott) was born on Saturday, the 13th Day of April, 1789, And was Baptized by the Rev.------- Kathy Baugh Scott, departed this life the 28th day of February, 1791 ========= NOTE: Here begins the 4th page. The handwriting is different, and it was obviously written much later. In spite of the face that this was filed with the pension application in 1838, the dates of birth for the first four children were shown as 1891, 1893, 1895 and 1897, I have corrected these to the proper date.
