Rickman Cemetery Location: 3 miles west of Hillsville, Virginia on Route #58, 100 yards on side road. Carroll County DATE: 1842 OWNERS: Valentine Leonard 1842 John P. Webb 1869 Thuray Webb 1909 DESCRIPTION: This house was a six room log house and has been made into an eight room frame building. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This tract of land contained one hundred and thirteen and one-half acres, and was the land on which the poor house for Carroll County was located. The paupers and negroes are buried here on this farm. The deed was made between James N. Lindsey, Carroll B. Jackson and Valentine Leonard, overseers of the poor of Carroll County, Virginia and John P. Webb. The amount paid for said farm was $335.00. It is located on Little Snake Creek. Valentine Leonard married Elizabeth Edwards, 1883. John P. Webb married Thursey Alderman, 1863.
