Obituary of James Monroe Gray, 1947 - Carroll Co. VA JAMES MONROE GRAY, 14 Mar 1873-21 Feb 1947 James Monroe GRAY, 74, retired farmer, died in Loudon Hosptal on Friday after a year's illness from a heart ailment. Mr. Gray came to Loudon Co. from southwest Virginia 28 years ago and at the time of his death, was residing in the Mountain Gap section near Leesburg. Surviving are five daughters: Mrs. Ada Clark, Alexandria; Mrs. Gilbert Jewell, Hamilton; Mrs. Howard Marshall, Mrs. Myron Jewell and Mrs. Raymond Jewell, all of Leesburg; three sons: Dexter, Alvers and Daniel Gray; 38 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday from Slack's Funeral Home, the Rev. W. E. Fowler and the Rev. Lester Myers officiating. The body was shipped back to Hillsville for buriel with the Loudon family making the trip there for the final rites.
