Obituary for Mary Bell [Barnes] Harrold/Harrell, 1956 - Carroll Co. VA Mary Bell Barnes Harrell died on Wednesday, October 3, 1956, of lung problems, at the home of her son Thomas Glenn Harrell in Raeford, North Carolina. She was born Sunday, June 6, 1886, daughter of Samuel Barnes and Phoebe Eades Barnes [Childress], of Siloam, North Carolina. She married Wesley David Harrold/Harrell on Monday, June 26, 1899 in Carroll County, Virginia, son of Enos Sylvester Harrold and Evalina [Allen] Harrold; grandson of Elijah Harrold and Catherine Scott and of Robert Allen and Elvira [Dean] Allen. Wesley died on March 11, 1926, of complications of Asthma, and is buried in the Harrold Cemetery at Cana in Carroll County, Virginia. Mary is survived by sons: Walter Madison Harrell (and wife Beatrice Fain), Joseph Herman Harrell (and wife Jennie Mae Paul), Samuel Kern Harrell (and wife Jessie Virginia Simmons), Thomas Glenn Harrell (and wife Daisy Bell Taylor, daughter of Steve Taylor and Kate [Fisher] Taylor), Willie Edgar Harrell (and wife Minnie Darlene Taylor, daughter of Steve Taylor and Kate [Fisher] Taylor), Robert E. Lee Harrell (and wife Hazel Marie Tutor), John Wesley Harrell (and wife Nadine Evelyn Brisson); daughters: Ada Evelyn [Harrell] Hall (and husband John Bill Hall), Lillie Agnes [Harrell] Wall (the widow of Joseph S. Wall, who died January 13, 1943), Mary Frances [Harrell] Paul (and husband Cletius Dargan Paul), Alma Marie [Harrell} Helphrey (and husband Charles Earl Helphrey; brother: Joseph Albert Barnes (and wife Essie Ferrell); sister: Sarah Ellen Barnes (widow of Arch Hall); brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joseph Elijah Harrold (and wife Matilda Elizabeth [Ayers] Harrold); sister-in-laws Elizabeth [Vipperman] Harrold, widow of Thomas C. Harrold, and Rica [McMillian] Harrold, widow of Robert Sylvester Harrold; a number of grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: sons Foy Sylvester Harrell and Floyd Bryan Harrell; brothers-in-law: Walter Booker Harrold (and wife Lucy Ann [McMillian] Harrold), Robert Sylvester Harrold, and Thomas C. Harrold. Mary Bell Harrold was much deserving of the endearing term "Mammy," which all her thirteen children called her. She loved her children very much and exhibited great courage in raising them after her husband died in 1926. She was known by everyone as a very generous person. Following the funeral service, Mary Bell Harrell will be buried in the Raeford Cemetery at Raeford, North Carolina. Submitted by William E.
