Obituary of Evalina Allen Harrold, 1927 - Carroll Co. VA Evalina Allen Harrold, age 81, died on December 1, 1927 after an extended illness. She was born September 10, 1846, in Patrick County, Virginia, the daughter of Robert Allen and Elvira Dean. Her grandparents were Carr Allen and Temperance Daniel and Henry Harrison Dean, Jr. and Keturah Ayers. Her great grandparents were: William Allen, Jr. and Ann Stuart, Nehemiah Daniel and Anna Lyon, Henry Harrison Dean, Sr. and Charity Beamer, and Elihu Ayers and Lydia Owen; gg-grandparents: William Allen, Sr. and Mary Lewis, Robert Lyon, Peter Richard Beamer, Thomas Ayers, Sr. and Barbara Murphy, and John Owen and Elizabeth Nichols. She was married in Patrick County, Virginia, on January 24, 1869, when she was 22, to Enos Sylvester Harrold, age 28, R. M. Clark officiating. Enos was the son of Elijah Harrold and Catherine Scott and the grandson of John Scott and Affirah Ayers, a Veteran of Company E of the 29th Virginia Infantry. He died of complications from influenza on October 28, 1918. Afterward Evalina drew a pension based on his service. Surviving are four sons: Walter Booker Harrold (married to Lucy Ann McMillian, who died January 23, 1927), Robert Sylvester Harrold (and wife Ulrica Rica McMillian Harrold), Joseph Elijah Harrold (and wife Matilda Elizabeth Ayers), and Thomas C. Harrold (and wife Elizabeth Vipperman); one daughter Rhoda Agnes [Harrold] Ayers (and husband William Madison Ayers). She is further survived by daughter-in-law Mary Bell [Barnes] Harrold (wife of Wesley David Harrold. She was preceded in death by: her husband Enos Sylvester Harrold (August 15, 1839-October 28, 1918); brother: William Henry Allen (who died in 1912) , husband of Emeline J. McMillian, Mary Jane [Allen] Harrold (and husband Thomas Marion Harrold), Embersetta Allen; Tabitha Ann (Faithy) Allen, Sarah Ann {Allen} Haynes, and Ruth Elizabeth [Allen] Hiatt; numerous grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Evalina Allen Harrold was first married to Sgt. John W. Branson, son of A. John and Sarah Branson, who died September 15, 1863, in Richmond, Virginia, while serving in Company E of the 29th Virginia Infantry. At a very early age she was baptized into Mt. Bethel Moravian Church, the oldest Moravian Church in Virginia. She was an active member and devoted to raising her family in a religious atmosphere. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Following the funeral services, she will be laid to rest in the Harrold Family Cemetery at Cana, in Southern Carroll County, Virginia.
