Obituary of Robert Sylvester Harrold, 1943 - Carroll Co. VA Funeral services for Robert Sylvester Harrold, 70, Winston-Salem, Route 7, New Rural Hall Road, who died Tuesday morning, June 22, 1943, at 1 a. m., at his home, will be conducted this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home, and at 2:30 p. m. at Mt. Bethel Moravian Church in Carroll County, Virginia. He had been in declining health for some time, and his condition had been serious for nine days. Rev. Burley S. Turner, Rev, Charles Crouch, Rev. Cable Bowman, and Rev. Mr. Kapp will officiate, and burial will be in the Harrold family cemetery on Wards Gap Road in Virginia. Pallbearers will be G. W. Gravett, Clarke Hoskins, James Madison, J. Van Tilley, Ernest McCollum, and Claude E. Powell. Mr. Harrold was born June 8, 1873 in Carroll County, Virginia, a son of Enos Sylvester and Evalina [Allen] Harrold, and a grandson of Elijah Harold and Catherine Scott and of Robert Allen and Elvira Dean. He moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1916, and his first job was as night watchman for Reynolda House, the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Reynolds. Robert Sylvester Harrold was a builder and contractor, and a member of Mt. Bethel Moravian Church since childhood. He owned a farm on Wards Gap Road in Carroll County, where he enjoyed his peach and apple orchard, and raising vegetables and chickens. His widow, the former Ulrica Rica McMillian, whom he married in 1902, survives. Other survivors include one daughter Carma (Mrs. James Clyde Roberts), Winston-Salem, Route 7; three sons, Ernest Denton Harrold, Route 7; Pvt. William Benton Harrold, Keesler Field, Mississippi; Pvt. Newton Fillmore Harrold, Paine Field, Everett, Washington; one grandchild, William Eugene Harrold; one sister, Rhoda Agnes [Harrold] Ayers, Ararat, Virginia; and two brothers Walter Booker Harrold, Mt. Airy, and Joseph Elijah Harrold of Ararat, Virginia. Two other brothers Wesley David Harrold and Thomas C. Harrold, along with an infant daughter and one infant brother preceded him in death.
