Obituary of Ulrica Rica [McMillian] Harrold, 1965 - Carroll Co. VA "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" Ulrica Rica McMillian Harrold, 82, of 4235 Indiana Avenue, Winston-Salem, widow of Robert Sylvester Harrold, whom she married in 1902, died on April 6, 1965, enroute to Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for three and one half years. Mrs. Harrold was born in Carroll County, Virginia, March 20, 1883 to Samuel Dudley McMillian and Sarah Ann McMillian, and was the granddaughter of Captain James Lee and Sarah Jane McMillian and of Joseph McMillian and Nancy Haynes. She spend her early life in Carroll County, where she attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. It was there she learned many of her fine culinary skills for which she developed a fine reputation. She moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1916, where she was a dedicated member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. Her spiritual values touched all those who came into her presence. Surviving are a daughter (Carma) Mrs. Francis Burtrum Motsinger of the home; three sons, Ernest Denton Harrold of 5221 Germanton Road (wife, Irene Vaughn); William Benton Harrold (wife, Evelyn Delores Turner), of 2703 Patrick Avenue; and Newton Fillmore Harrold of the home; one grandson, Dr. William Eugene Harrold, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; one sister Elsie Earnestine [McMillian] Thomas, of Mt.Airy; and a brother, James Orville McMillian, of Chula, Virginia. Rica was preceded in death by her husband Robert Sylvester Harrold, who died June 22, 1943; one infant daughter; three sisters Iris [McMillian] Towe, Elizabeth [McMillian] Cline, and Melissa Gray McMillian; and two brothers Arnold Carew McMillian and James Hoke McMillian. Pallbearers will be Willie Lowery, Glenn Turner, John Thacker, R. C. Creed, C.A. Slate, and Arthur Vaden. Family visitation will be held at Vogler's Chapel from 7:30 to 9 tonight. The funeral will be at 3 p. m. tomorrow at Forest Hill Baptist Church on Polo Road, the Rev. Jesse Head officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. to lie in state for one half hour. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Woodland Cemetery at Reynolds Boulevard and Indiana Avenue. Becky Lamb will serve as organist, and the music will include "Amazing Grace" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye."
