Obituary of Ernest Denton Harrold, 1975 - Carroll Co. VA Ernest Denton Harrold, 72, of 185 Cook Street, Rural Hall, North Carolina, passed away at Forsyth Memorial Hospital at 5:15 a. m. Wednesday morning December 3, 1975. He had been ill since Saturday. Mr. Harrold was born in Carroll County, Virginia on October 22, 1903 to Ulrica Rica [McMillian] Harrold and Robert Sylvester Harrold. His grandparents were Enos Sylvester Harrold and Evalina Allen and Samuel Dudley McMillian and Sarah Ann McMillian; and his great grandparents were: Joseph McMillian,Sr. and Nancy Haynes, Captain James Lee McMillian and Sarah Jane McMillian, Elijah Harrold and Catherine Scott, and Robert Allen and Elvira Dean. Ernest spent most of his life in Forsyth County, North Carolina, coming to Winston-Salem in 1916. In his early life he worked as a builder and contractor with his father, and also spent time in Virginia working in the orchards on his father's farm on Ward's Gap Road. Later, he was with the R. J. Reynolds Company for 25 years before retiring in 1969. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Marshall Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Irene Vaughn (daughter of Sidney Vaughn and Lucy Pierce); one sister, Mrs. Carma [Harrold] Motsinger of Winston-Salem; one nephew, Dr. William Eugene Harrold, of Milwaukee Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Benton Harrold and Newton Fillmore Harrold, and by one infant sister. Funeral services will be conducted at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel at 2 p. m. Friday by Rev. Ryland Rock and Rev. Northrup Hood. Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will be at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
