Obituary for Joseph McMillian, Jr., 1928 - Carroll Co. VA Joseph McMillian, Jr. died on October 8, 1928. He was killed in automobile accident, while en route to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to visit his niece Rica [McMillian] Harrold and husband Robert Sylvester Harrold. Joseph was born September 6, 1861 in Carroll County, Virginia, the son of Joseph McMillian, Sr. and Nancy Ann Haynes, and grandson of Nathaniel and Anna McMillian and of Archibald Haynes and Sarah Ann McMillian. In 1890 he married the former Abacilla Haynes, daughter of William H. Haynes and Hester [Banks] Haynes. He is survived by son: Edgar F. McMillian (and Annie Clines), Samuel H. McMillian, and Roy McMillian (and wife Edith Jane McMillian); daughters: Cara Ida McMillian (and husband Esau J. Ayers), Lydia J, McMillian (and husband Garland Haynes), Mary E. McMillian (and husband Arthur S. McMillian), and Tina McMillian; brothers: Hardin Reynolds McMillian (and wife Agnes Gelominda Dawson); and a number of grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother: John H. McMillian, and Haynes Mcmillian, husband of Caroline Guynn McMillian; and sister: Sarah Ann McMillian (and brother-in-law Samuel Dudley McMillian). Joseph McMillian was educated in Carroll County. His home was on the headwaters of Lovill's Creek. He owned a farm and an orchard. An humble man, he was a good citizen, who will be remembered by his family and friends. Following funeral services, he will be interred at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, the resting place of several generations of the McMillian, Haynes, and Guynn families.
