Obituary for Alexander McMillian, 1939 - Carroll Co. VA Alexander McMillian passed away at his home on June 2, 1939. He was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on November 26, 1859, the son of Captain James Lee McMillian and Sarah Jane McMillian, the grandson of Dudley McMillian and Elizabeth Hicks, and the great grandson of Stephen McMillian and Martha Blansett and of Abraham and Elizabeth McMillian. He was married to Elizabeth Tahulda (Tallie) Hiatt c. 1881, daughter of Franklin Hiatt and Catherine (Kitty) Chappell. Survivors are: sons Alfonso (Alf) Franklin McMillian (and wife Leona Vipperman), General Fletcher Lee (Littley) McMillian (and wife Ada Shadrack), James Walker McMillian (and wife Margaret McMillian, daughter of Haynes McMillian and Caroline Guynn), and Uriah Howard McMillian (and wife Ada A. Ayers); daughters: Wreath Heather (Reath Heath) McMillian (and husband John W. (Jolin) Haynes, and Viola Virginia McMillian (and husband Rev. George Cabel Bowman). Also surviving are brothers: Lafayette F. McMillian (and wife Martha (Mattie) Law; and a number of grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Samuel Dudley McMillian (and sister-in-law Sarah Ann McMillian), Richard Lee McMillian (and sister-in-law Louemma Catherine Edwards; and by sister Martha Clementine [McMillian] Wisler, wife of Walter Ambrose Wisler. After funeral services, Mr. McMillian will be laid to rest in the McMillian Family Cemetery at Cana in southern Carroll, site of the burial of several generations of the McMillian and Bowman families.
