Obituary of Elsie Earnestine [McMillian] Thomas, 1965 - Carroll Co. VA Elsie Earnestine [McMillian] Thomas of Bannertown (Mt. Airy, North Carolina), age 76, passed away Sunday, April 11, 1965 at Broughton Hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of William Arthur Thomas (son of William Thomas and Rosanna Catherine Fleming), whom she married November 20, 1907, and who died in November 12, 1948. Elsie was born in Carroll County, Virginia, February 24, 1889, and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. After her marriage she moved to Mt. Airy and raised a family. There she was a dedicated member of Bannertown Baptist Church. She was the daughter of Samuel Dudley McMillian and Sarah Ann McMillian; and the granddaughter of Captain James Lee McMillian and Sarah Jane McMillian and of Joseph McMillian,Sr. and Nancy Haynes. She is survived by two sons: Glen Thomas of Mt. Airy, and Lester Thomas, of Mt. Airy; and two daughters Gladys Iris (Vivian) Moser of Mt. Airy, and Violet Hill, of Mt. Airy; one brother, James Orville McMillian, of Chula, Virginia; and by 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son Clarence Thomas, and one daughter Carrie Seal; and by two brothers, Arnold Carew McMillian and James Hoke McMillian; and four sisters: Iris McMillian Towe, Ulrica Rica McMillian Harrold, Elizabeth McMillian Cline, and Melisa Gray McMillian. Funeral services will be Tuesday April 13, 1965 at 2 p. m., at Bannertown Baptist Church. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Pallbearers will Deacons of Bannertown Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, North Main Street, Mt. Airy.
