Obituary of Martha Clementine McMillian Wisler, 1912 - Carroll Co. VA Martha Clementine McMillian Wisler passed away on February 7, 1912. She was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on May 8, 1873, the daughter of Captain James Lee McMillian and Sarah Jane McMillian, and the granddaughter of Dudley McMillian and Elizabeth Hicks. She was married in 1891 to Walter Ambrose Wisler, a well-known and respected school teacher in Carroll County, son of William Wisler and Elitha Susan Smith; and grandson of Jacob H. Wisler and Mary Tyson, and of Ewell A. Smith and Massey Mankins. The Wisler family, originally of Pennsylvania, were educators and founders of St. Paul School in Carroll County, Virginia, and, along with the Towe family, founders of St. Paul Church of the Brethren. Martha Clementine McMillian Wisler is survived by her husband Walter, and eight children: Nellie Ethel Wisler, Roland Benton Wisler, Roy Ambrose Wisler, James William Wisler, Myrtle Edith Wisler, Alton Porter Wisler, Benjamin Dean Wisler, and Violette Meade Wisler. She is further survived by her mother Sarah Jane McMillian, and three brothers: Alexander McMillian (and wife Elizabeth Tahulda Hiatt McMillian); Richard Lee McMillian; and Lafayette F. McMillian (and wife Martha (Mattie) Law McMillian). She was preceded in death by her father Captain James Lee McMillian, and one brother Samuel Dudley McMillian. Martha Clementine was named after her g-grandmother Martha Blansett, wife of Stephen McMillian. She was affectionately called "Babe" and "Clemmie," and remembered for her beautiful thick black hair, which came to be known by family and friends as "McMillian hair." She will be placed to rest in the McMillian Family Cemetery at Cana in Carroll County.
