Witnesseth that for and consideration of eleven hundred dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Thomas Portwood and Milly his wife has this day bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell to the said John Booth one certain tract of land lying and being in the said County of Charlotte on the waters of Sandy Creek containing two hundred and forty six acres and bounded as follows: Beginning at John Booth's corner on the main branch of Sandy creek a few __ below a red bank in George Petty's line, thence with John Booth's line N 77 W 34 Poles to a Corner in an old field thence N 4 E 46 Poles to a bend in the line thence N 39 E 104 poles to Booth's corner pine stump thence N 60 W 12 Poles to a corner hickory with estate of Bannister Ferrell in Booth's line thence with said Ferrell's line N 27 E 86 poles to a crook in the line thence N 56 poles to a corner post oak on Cocks road, thence with Ferrell's line N 75 E 33 poles to a corner post oak thence S 30 poles to the head of a branch thence down the branch as it meanders 46 poles to Ferrells corner pointers thence N 87 E 20 poles to a crook, thence S 80 E 100 poles to Ferrell's corner post oak thence S 32 E 12 poles to a Chesnut white oak on a small branch thence down the branch as it meanders 128 poles to a larger main branch of Sandy Creek thence down Sand Creek as it meanders to the beginning. To have and to hold the afforesaid tract of land to him the said John Booth forever. And the said Thomas Portwood and Milly his wife do covenant for themselves and their heirs to warrant and defend a good & lawful title to the said tract of land to him the said John Booth against the claims of them and their heirs and every other person or persons whatsoever. Wm Deupree (SEAL) Edwin Price (SEAL) _______________________________________________________________________ ___ Deed Book 22, Page 5 Charlotte County, Virginia This Indenture made the 1st day of December one thousand eight hundred and thirty six between George Petty and Susannah Petty his wife of the County of Charlotte of the one part and John Booth of the same county of the other part, Witnesseth that the said George Petty & Susannah Petty his wife for and consideration of the sum of thirteen hundred and forty four dollars current money of Virginia to them in hand payed by the said John Booth, the receipt whereof they doth hereby acknowledge and themselves fully and entirely satisfied hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released and confirmed and by these present for themselves & their heirs doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, release and confirm unto the said John Booth his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract of land Containing two hundred & twenty four acres, it being the tract of land on which the said Petty now lives and joining the lands of said John Booth, Jonathan Ashworth, Edwin Price, Thomas I or J Garden, John C Ingram and John C Booth and granted unto the said John Booth with all houses, orchards, gardens, fences, woods, underwoods, water and water Courses thereupon standing growing and being with all profits, Commodities, advantages and appertenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining and also the revision and revisions, remainder and remainders thereof and every part and parcel thereof to have and to hold the before granted land and premises with their and every of this appertances unto the said John Booth his heirs and assigns that he and they shall and may at all times hereafter quietly posess and enjoy the before granted lands and premises free from all former sales, gifts, mortgages, right of dower or any incumbrance whatsoever and the said George Petty & his wife Susannah Petty and their heirs shall and will warrant and forever defend the before granted land & premises with the appertenances thereunto belonging unto the said John Booth his heirs and assigns forever against any other person or persons that shall or may lay claim or claims thereunto. Teste I J Robinson CC ______________________________________________________ Deed Book 22, Page 7 Charlotte County, Virginia This Indenture made this 10th day of December 1836 between John Booth and Clarissa H, his wife of Charlotte County of the one part and Edwin Price of the said County of the other. Witnesseth, that the said John Booth and Clarissa H his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and thirty five dollars to them in hand paid by the said Edwin Price, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain & sell unto the said Edwin Price one certain parcel or tract of land containing thirteen and a half acres lying in the lower end of Charlotte on the waters of Sandy Creek and bounded as follows. Beginning at a Corner red oak on King's road near the said Edwin Prices, thence along the road S 84 E 20 poles N 9 E 28 poles & W 30 E 25 poles to Corner pine stump on the road, thence a new line N 78 W 95 3/4 poles to pointers in Jonathan Ashworth's line, thence his line S 32 E 51 3/4 poles to the beginning: To have and to hold the aforesaid tract with all its appertances to him, the said Edwin Price and his heirs or assigns forever and the said John Booth and Clarissa H his wife do Covenant for themselves and their heirs to warrant and defend a good and lawful title to the said tract of land to him the said Edwin Price & his heirs against the claims of them the said John Booth and Clarissa H his wife and all and every other person or persons whomsoever; In testimony whereof we have hereto set our hands and seals the day and year above written. Jno Booth (SEAL) Clarissa H Booth (SEAL) Charlotte County to wit: We William Deupree and Hillery Moseley justices of the peace in the County aforesaid in the state of Virginia we hereby certify that John Booth and Clarissa H Booth parties to a certain deed bearing date on 10th day of December 1836 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid & acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Clarissa H Booth acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it. Witnesseth that the said John Booth & Clarissa H Booth his wife for and in consideration of the sum six hundred and forty two dollars Current money of Virginia to them in hand payed by the said John C Booth the receipt whereof they doth hereby acknowledge and themselves fully and entirely satisfied hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released & confirmed & by these presents for themselves & their heirs doth grant, bargain, sell, alein, release & confirm unto the said John C Booth his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract of land containing one hundred & seven acres, it being a part of the land which the said J. Booth bought of George Petty and joining the lands of Thomas J or I Garden, John C Ingram the said John C Booth & John Booth and granted unto the said Jno C Booth with all houses, orchards, gardens, fences, woods,, underwoods, water and water courses thereupon standing, growing and being with all profits, commodities, & appertanances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining & also the revision & revisions, remainder & remainders thereof and every part and parcel thereof to have & to hold the before granted lands and premises with their and every of their appertances unto the said John C Booth his heirs & assigns that he and they shall & may at all Times hereafter quietly possess and enjoy the before granted lands & premises free from all former sales , gifts, mortgages, rights of dower or any incumbrance whatsoever and the said John Booth and his wife Clarissa H Booth and their heirs shall and will warrant and forever defend the before granted lands & premises with the appertencnces thereto belonging unto the said John C Booth his heirs & assigns forever against any other person or persons that shall or may lay claim or claims thereunto.
