VA Deed Bk 11 1806-1810 pg 9 This indenture made the fifteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and six Between Archer Farley and Anne his wife of the County of Charlotte of the one part and Hillery Moseley of the same county of the other part witnesseth that the said Archer Farley and Anne his wife for and in consideration the full sum of four hundred and fifty pounds Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Hillery Moseley the receipt whereof they the said Archer Farley and Anne his wife doth hereby acknowledge and themselves fully satisfied consented and paid hath given granted bargained and sold to him the said Hillery Moseley his heirs and assigns forever one certain piece or parcel of land containing by estimation four hundred eighty acres be the same more or less lying and being County aforesaid on the waters of Blue Stone and Buffalow [sic] Creek and bounded as followeth to wit beginning at a Certain poplar on said Farley's spring branch thence along Christopher Robertson's line to Nelson Bruces' line thence along Bruce line to Bardens line thence along the same to Henry Robertson's line thence along Robertson's line to Edward Moseley Senr line thence along to Falkes line thence along Faulks to Martin Elliots line along Elliotts line to the beginning with all and singular and appurtenance thereunto belonging or in any way To have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the same part and parcel thereof to ...the said Hillery Moseley his assigns forever against them the said Archer Farley with Anne his wife & his heirs Executors, Administrators and against the claims...of any other person or persons whatsoever shall and these presents warrant and forever defend In witness is hereof said Archer Farley and Anne his wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year within Archer Farley L.S. (blank) L.S. Signed, sealed & delivered in presence of J.G. Bacon, Bedford Hamlett, James Hamlett, Little John McCargo At a court held for Charlotte Count the 1st day of December 1806 The Indenture was presented in Court by the oaths of Bedford Hamlett and James Hamlett two of the subscribing witnesses as the act and deed of the said Archer Farley and ordered to be certified. At a court held for the said county the 2nd day of February 1807 the same was further proved by the oath of John G. Bacon as the act and deed of the said Archer Farley & ordered to be recorded. Jameson Gentlemen Justices of Charlotte County of Greeting Whereas Archer Farley & Anne his wife by their certain Indenture of bargain and sale bearing date of the fifteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and six having sold and conveyed unto Hillery Moseley four hundred & eighty acres of land with the appertenances lying and being in the county of Charlotte on the waters of Blue Stone & Buffalow [sic] Creek and whereas the said Anne cannot conveniently travel to our Court of an said County of Charlotte to make acknowledgement of the said conveyance therefore we do give unto you or any two or three of you power to receive the acknowledgement which said Anne shall be willing to make before you of the Conveyance aforesaid contained in the said Indenture which is hereto annexed and we do therefore command do personally go to the said Anne and receive her acknowledgement of the same, examine her prively [sic] and apart from the said Archer Farley her husband whether she doth the same freely and voluntarily without his persuasion or threats and whether she be willing that the same should be recorded in the county Court of Charlotte & when you have received her acknowledgement and examined her as aforesaid that you distinctly and openly Certify us thereof in our said Court under your hands & seals sending there the said deed & this writ witness Thomas Read Clerk of our said Court the 19th day of February 1807 in the 31st year of the Commonwealth.
