VA Deed Bk 9, 1801-1803 pg 61 This indenture made the seventeenth day of July in the Year one thousand eight hundred and one. Between William Laine of the county of Charlotte of the one part and Josiah Moseley of the aforesaid county of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Lyne [sic] for and in consideration of the sum of One Hundred and eighty five pounds good and lawful money to him in hand paid by the said Josiah Moseley the receipt whereof the said William Laine doth hereby acknowledge & thereof doth acquit hath granted bargained & sold & hereby doth grant, bargain & sell to the said Josiah Moseley one certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the aforesaid county on the waters of Sandy Creek, containing one hundred and eight five acres more or less and is bounded as follows. Beginning on Miles Bottoms line, thence his line to William Ryans, thence his line to John Williamson's line thence to Moore Lumpkins, thence his line to James Newton's line, thence his line to Arthur Moseley's line, thence this line to Josiah Moseley's line to the Beginning. To have and to hold and enjoy free from the claim or claims of all and every other person and the said William Laine doth for himself his heirs & forever warrant and defend the right and title of the above sold lands and appurtenances to him the said Josiah Moseley and his heirs forever free from the said William Laine and every other person or persons having any claim or claims thereto. In witness whereof, I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventeenth day of July Eighteen hundred and one.
