He was born in 1760 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. He enlisted in July or August, 1776, and served in Captain Josiah Martin's Virginia Company. He served again under Major Jones. He served again under Captain Robert Jennings' and Captain Gideon Spencer's companies, Colonel John Holcomb's regiment. He was at the Siege of Yorktown and the surrender of Cornwallis.
